Though i'm not an american, i think that to single out one country is wrong... every person, in fact the majority of the population harm the world in one way or another... there is alsorts going on, corruption, greed, etc aswell as the physical things you see like the scarring of the earth, toxic waste, "global warming", but you can't just expect to launch all your hate and malice onto one nation. We all play our part in the grand play called life, and so we all have some form of responsibility to it.

Personally, I love our country. There are some things that I would have done differently, but to say that the citizens have no control is a myth. Part of the way our government is setup is the concept that we put people in there to make decisions based on what we think is right or wrong. Granted, that doesn't always happen, but more times than not it does. People tend to vote based on policies that they can most identify with.

Dammit, I already greenrepped you this week. :) Consider this post an IOU. Yes, that was exactly what he tried... and setting up a non sequiter where red-repping a hate statement = a vote against democracy is the kind of brilliance I'd expect from someone that sits there on a computer probably designed in America running software written in America while saying he hates Americans. Naah, nobody here ever did anything that benefited anyone, we're just evil sunsabeeches by nature. LOL.

*This does not explain why contacting tech support means I gotta call Bombay. ;)

Rep Applied to OP: "Sorry kid, but the rep system is *exactly* democratic. Here's my vote against blanket statements of hatred. ~ robjones"

That's how democracy works fella. You have a right to say what you want, I have a right to vote based on my opinion. Americans as a whole cannot be classified as good or bad any more than Canadians or any other country's occupants. I know plenty of Canadians I like, plenty I don't, and my opinion of one doesn't affect that of the other.

Blanket generalizations are merely a weak replacement for good judgment.

Ah yes, because Canadian healthcare is soooo much better!

I have been very close to many Canadians and none of them had anything good to say about the healthcare system there. Neither does Larry Flynt!

My grandmother had to watch her longtime mate of some 15+ years die a horrible death right in front of her because of the mistakes of the Canadian health system....

I am very proud to be an American (and by that I mean the United States). I am not always proud of our government, in fact they are down right embarrassing a lot of times (thank you bill) and shaming at other times. But I will stick by this country and it's ideals to the end. I do believe though that we need to get our b*tts out of the middle east and the rest of the world. Let the generous citizens of this country support and raise money for whomever they like - but stop the country from spending our taxes overseas.

I honestly hate to say this as I don't 'hate' the US in any form.

Our health care system however is far from perfect. I have been going through medical issues for a bit now, thousands and thousands of dollars in bills.

Yet for the most part I'm where I started at. Specialists are so spread out while I'm literally wasting away to nothing I was supposed to wait over 2 months to see an endocrinologist. Finally I was able to get rushed in and seen one this week.

All because my insurance 'thank god I have insurance now' will only let me see certain doctors.

I also know lots of people who have wasted away and died in the US.

Not too impressed ATM to say the least.

Don't get me wrong Grim, I was in no way stating that our healthcare is any better. But, I certainly would NOT want to replace what we have now with the Canadian healthcare system. It's like trading apples for apples.

My grandmother and her mate were driving around one Saturday looking for antiques as they usually did. He suddenly started violently throwing up and said he had the worst headache of his life. He knew what was happening instantly. He told my grandmother he was having a stroke and knew he was dying. He told my grandmother not to call anyone and to let him pass quietly in her arms. Heartwrenching to say the least.

And the reason for his stroke? He has a very small blood clot in his leg that was being treated by several Canadian doctors. Paperwork and medical records were lost resulting in a huge mistake. He had a history of strokes and was given 10 times the amount of blood thinners he should have been given. He really shouldn't have been given any at all with his history of bleeding in the brain, but with lost records, longgggg wait times to see doctors ending up killing him....

The health care system does need to be improved, but the treatment, medical technologies, doctors, etc are the best in the world. It just needs to be more accessible, and cheaper for those who can't afford insurance.

I definitely agree with your comment here. I was in a college American Government course. The professor was pretty interesting. He would let us choose one or two topics to discuss throughout the semester. One thing we picked was the US healthcare system. We did a lot of studying, looking over statistics, and generally just debating on the issue throughout the semester. The conclusion I think most of us in the class took was that Our healthcare system is far from perfect, it is just as good if not better than other countries though (at least Canada specifically).

I just had to say something... Y and Z could murder X in his sleep and somehow you'd blame X. You're a blatant X-ist.

The problem with X is that there isn't enough. If you tripled X you'd have a lot more fun.
