    Hi,

I want to move one of my website to another domain so I want to use 301 redirect for that. I am getting good visitors for that website and obviously dont want to lose any of my customer.

What should be the strategy for not losing PR and SERP position?

What should be the strategy for changing backlinks to point to new domain?

    Thanks

And one more question, Is it really safe to use 301 redirect? (unfortunately I have to do it:( )

By the way website is in ASP.

The 301 redirect is the correct method. Ideally you want to redirect oldpage to newpage, not all oldpages to the home page of the new site. Let's say you have a bunch of pages like:

    mysite.com/directory1/pagename.htm

you'd want the 301 redirect to go to

    newsite.com/directory1/pagename.htm

It's transparent to users and all the major engines follow them and pass on rankings.

Is the site hosted on a shared plan where you don't have access to the IIS? Are the urls static .asp pages or dynamic with .asp and some query string?

    Thanks for the answer.

Pages are dynamic but I am not using any query string, and I don't have access to IIS either. I think I can use asp to redirect to the new website??

and also what would be your strategy for backlinks? I mean I have got around 170 backlinks to the oldsite so what shall I do with them? Shall I change the backlinks at once? or gradually?

    Thanks
