Hi, Just wanted to check, if we use a domain name like "SonyVaioX.com" to place information on the product, and use it to sell the product, will it be considered as infringement? The seller said: Just wanted to be sure, thanks.
I would say that the seller is lying. It's certainly trademark infringement and large companies rarely grant permission to use their mark in a domain.
Knowing Sony's very bullish protection of it's trade marks I wouldn't give this domain very long to live. Perhaps better to try another.
I would definitely contacting Sony and ask them, you never know what they may do if they find out about your site.
Contact Sony yourself, explaining the situation, don't tell them what the seller said though, and request guidance.
Thanks everyone. I was skeptical about the seller's reply too. It won't be worth my time, so I've decided to let this one go. Once again, thanks!
I would just take the site offline and deregister the domain asap. No point getting into troubles with the giants.
I didn't know you could de-register a domain. Also, I have not bought it from the seller; I just wanted to make sure it wasn't infringing on Sony's copyrights/trademarks.
Sony has the ability to sick a pack of wolves on you with a blink, I think you'd better error on the side of caution.
bad idea. sony will come at you the second they dont like what you are doing (and they probably wont!)
