Sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask the publisher!

I contacted a publisher to ask them how the product was converting for affiliates. I got this response

The conversion is terrible. I haven't been tracking it because I don't
want to waste any time on it right now. Don't waste your time
    promoting it.

Sometimes it's worthwhile asking the publisher if you should promote the product before dedicating any time or resources :D

That's pretty funny. What's the gravity on that product?

The gravity is about 5. I found it pretty funny too :D

you should have made an offer to buy the product rights from him and revamped it then sell it yourself.

That's a good idea... There are probably quite a few low gravity products (that have been around for awhile) that some publishers would be glad to be rid of but which actually have quite a bit of potential.

There are quite a few crappy products on Clickbank these days. Makes it easier for other publishers to snag up ALL the affiliates by giving a few extra hours care to the product AND the affiliates :)

It doesn't make sense to me that publishers would neglect their affiliates. Thats kinda like crapping where you eat.
