I heard the government is granting citizenship to illegals if they join the U.S. military. If this is true, the U.S. is headed down the same path of Rome........

Possibly. Meanwhile I have a valid and current visa, I'm in a illegal situation in the US...
The government should have said 'no visa, no entry' at the first place...
There is no justice to take the money to people who immigrate and once spend in new enterprise, make them out of law....
Except that, you might be right, it might be the dumbest post of the day....

So your are in the US on a non-working visa and you are working? I had a relative who was here on a visa and her sponsor died, another relative stepped in who was high in state government and they said a new sponsor could not be allowed. She flew home. It was sad but she wasn't illegal, she abided by the law.

If you are working illegally here, are you going to resolve the situation?

That my friend is a foregone conclusion. From the marginalization of the senate (senate and congress) by caesar (the executive), to the wars that maintain and grow the empire.

The parallels have been there for over a decade.

A federal judge has blocked (ICE) Homeland Security from sending no-match letters to advise employers that the social security number provided for a particular employee or employees does not match the name of the person in the social security database.

I'm trying to resolve, but there is nothing to resolve. The law is the law.
I know more people in my situation. To live normally, they get fake SSN, fake driver's license, fake everything, and they are legally with visas.
I'm on a working visa and I work (and stay) legally. However, I drive illegally (can't have a US driver's license), no insurance of any kind (I have an expensive car insurance for foreigner but no access to health insurance), no school for my kids (they need a SSN), no SSN, no mortgage, no business license (needed to do my business for what my visa is for !!), no cell phone, no business bank account, no credit card, and more...I do have the obligation to pay taxes though...

We are entrepreneurs and businessmen with less rights than our employees! I have a friend who get picked up by his employee to go to work every morning!! He can not have a driver's license...(legally)

I can not explain why Republicans would go easy on illegal aliens with conventional wisdom. Republicans are law and order, crime and punishment.

One theory I have is there is concern over the size of the US population as Europe unites and India and China modernize and gain affluence and influence. One way to maintain power is to grow the population. Australia and New Zealand used to actively recruit people to move there for their skills and maybe for economic growth.

The children and grandchildren of illegals end up being regular Americans and end up being educated and contributing members of society and therefore be prone to be Republicans.

So could the soft Republican stance be to increase the population to maintain strength?

I don't subscribe to that theory.

I believe the immigration issue was left unchecked

    To satisfy the lobbyists
To set the stage for a North American Union
Because traditional American values like independence and sovereignty have been replaced by neo-socialism and an untamed bureaucracy.

I agree. While the problem could be very easy, it has been made a difficult problem for any reason...Sure there is something behind the scene. Why it is not said publicy? who knows...

    Just another little unimportant story:

My daughter wasn't feeling well last thursday. No big deal. But friday morning it was not any better, a bit of fever, and throat irritated. So, my wife and I went to the nearest Walt-Mart for some light medicine. Again, it's a no big deal that will disappeared within a couple of days. Matter of fact is, at writing, she's fine. But, at Walt-mart, we couldn't buy it. We had to present an ID. And we can not legally have one with our legal work visa valid for 5 years.
So, should I cheat in order to get medicine to my child and be out of law or should I legally watch her dying (if it was the case) ??
As legal immigrant, I can tell you dozens of stories like this one, from getting a cell phone to renting a rental car, you name it...
Half of the 12 millions of illegals immigrants are illegals because the government make them illegal...not because they want to...

Wal-Mart sure has some strict rules.

A raid by federal, state and local authorities at a Wal-Mart Stores construction site in Pennsylvania netted about 125 arrests for alleged immigration violations.
    http://money.cnn.com/2005/11/18/news/fortune500/walmart_raid/

at least 250 illegal immigrants who were employed by janitor contracting services and hired by the giant retailing chain in 21 states. Many of the janitors — from Mexico, Russia, Mongolia, Poland and a host of other nations — worked seven days or nights a week without overtime pay or injury compensation, said attorney James L. Linsey. Those who worked nights were often locked in the store until the morning, Linsey said.

That's been going on for years now. It explains how the US army has concealed the actual casualty rate of it's soldiers, which according to the Resistance Movement in Iraq numbers in the the 10's of thousands. They simply do not list the deaths of the South Americans who have been killed as they are not US citizens.

35,000 non-citizens serve in the military and the US military has always accepted non citizens. Over all I think it is a good thing. That these people have a stake in the system.

The real issue is that you have Joe six-pack subsidizing Big Business with cheap labor.

2/3 of immigrants cost Americans $22,449 a year, shows new study
    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55135

So if a business wants to hire an illegal fine. Just make them pay a tax of $2000 a month per illegal and see how fast they find a legal resident to do the job.

Good deal. We could also make US employees pay their boss $2000 a month since the illegal boss (who has legal visas) had authorization to hire and then, obligation to shut up...

I'm not against illegal aliens and certainly won't deny them medicine. You have to realize that there is an illegal alien "system". As soon as your grant amensty the same employeers will bring in 15 million replacements.

You can also see the the 1986 immigration reform and amnesty didn't work.

Big Business want cheap illegal labor and wants the taxpayer to subsidize them for the extra $22,449 a year.

Good question. There are a lot of Senators and Congressman that are in the pockets of the big businesses importing illegals.

The US allows between 700,000 to 900,000 legal immigrants per year
