That in Yahoo (not tried it in MSN) you can find if a website is still linking to your domain as it should, ie in a link exchange. I've been learning SEO for four years - and I've never heard of this search command in Yahoo until today site:thedomainyourlinkison.com linkdomain:yourwebsite.com If a result doesn't appear - they are no longer linking to you (best check to make sure before removing the link!) Oh, and don't put the www. in front of the URL's. I'm sure tons of you already know this but I didn't so I thought I'd share. Darren
The new Site Explorer that Yahoo has also has a field for backlinks - you can see backlinks for a particular page or for your entire site. More ways to find info like that is good
You type this all on one line? I've used the 2 commands seperately, but it never occured to me to combine the two into one command.
Combinations of search commands are extremely useful for link building. For example to find your competitor's edu backlinks linkdomain:badbadcompetitor.com +site:.edu Or very related edu pages inurl:keyword +site:.edu etc
Yes, you type this in one line - one command. I've obviously split them up, i.e. site: and linkdomain: but never thought of using them together until today - like I said some people will know this, and I know Explorer helps with links aswell, but this is just a quick way I think. p.s. it also works in MSN aswell.
I like the short cut commands. One I use all the time to check if my link has been picked up in google I type this "index-it.net" website.com The same can be done if you have a sitewide listing somewhere and you want to see how many pages your anchor text has been seen by google so far you just type "internet web directory" index-it.net Works great and saves alot of time.
Very good information. Where can I find information on all commands like site, linkdomain, index-it.net etc?
not sure where you can find a full list. I just happended to run across those on my own playing around.
...just tried this and my PC exploded and my hair caught on fire! Hey, I'm kidding. Great post - super information. more links: http://www.searchcommands.com/ http://www.searchenginegenie.com/backlink-strategies.htm
Yep great post Using site explorer a lot more these days and learning some of the combos is really helping me out.
Yeah it blew my pants off -- thankfully I was home alone Thanks for the comments... Banless, great suggestions on even more commands that I didn't know about.
Darren here is a trick for you with Google - not sure if you know this. Use Google Alerts to get notification for when Google see's a back link to your site. Use the Search terms link:www.yoursite.com I am thinking you could also use the command site:www.yoursite.com to get an alert for everytime a page pop's into their index.
That seems like it could be a very valuable tool to use. I'm going experiment using your examples to monitor the backlinks of my competitors. Hopefully it will work. Thank you very much for the idea. Folks, this has been an outstanding thread.
