I can't find an answer of one question myself. I've seen alot of websites that are #1 on Google's SERPs and they don't have the keywords meta tag for the search term I'm using and many other websites are ranked lower, but they have it. Why people still say that keywords meta tag is important for Google, when the results are different from the expected?
SE algorithm is a secret. nobody knows exactly. if you hang out in different seo forum what you will very likely see is that most all these seo forum's "seo expert" have conflicting views on seo technique. if you want to learn seo what you should do is understand the basic first and then analyze it yourself. you analyze things by studying the SERPS for different keyword phrase from the major keyword to the not so very important keywords. research for the top 3 SE. what you learn about seo in forum or everywhere else is just a guide or opinions not the true algorithms. some might be right some might be wrong. so keep an open mind when learning about seo.
I thought Google started ignoring keywords years ago. It was one of the first methods used by webmasters to manipulate rankings. Some minor search engines still use them so there’s no harm in having them in. It doesn’t cost anything.
As Simonh says, google hasn't paid attention to keyword tags for years. In fact they don't even mention them in their guidance notes for webmasters on meta tags http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=79812&query=meta+tags&topic=&type=
Title tag and description tag, these are the important one. Most search engines dont use keyword tags anymore.
