Hi Folks, Very seldom will I purchase a domain name from someone. Usually I develop my own, and it's not uncommon for me to come up with 50-100 viable names in the span of an hour or two. Here's an interesting bit of information I ran across yesterday, the as far as I'm concerned, cements my thoughts about picking domain names. Source: WebProNews.com "The hyphenated version of a domain name is the more search engine friendly of the two. Some engines can only read hyphenated urls, and recognize the key phrases within them, but will only see the un-hyphenated version as a jumble of letters. Having key words within a domain name may increase the relevancy "score" on some search engines. Ideally your domain name will consist of, or fully contain, your primary key phrase." Having sold a number of hyphenated domains for some SERIOUS cash, I was glad to see someone else agrees. Pete
I purchase quite a few domains with traffic. One thing my high traffic domains have in common is that they don't have hyphens. Besides being difficult to brand, they are also limited in type in traffic. If I'm building a site with a two word domain, I may register the hyphenated version as well to protect the brand. The hyphenated version would only be used as a domain pointer. If it's a three word domain I'm building (rare), I won't even bother registering the hyphenated version. Anything more then one hyphen looks too "spammy" to me. Glad you were able to sell some keyword rich hyphenated domains. With the right effort, they can be very useful...
Curious as to your definition of serious cash & a sample of the names you've sold for that amount. Hyphenated names dramatically reduce the value of the name. They DO sell, but they have to be reasonable names so personally, I wouldn't rush out to purchase hyphenated names unless they're very good names.
Hyphenated names, to my opinion, is a long term investment. There will come a time when you can get serious cash for them. With the failure of .info and .eu plus another predicted failure (.asia) on the way, a good hyphenated .com will be good as gold. Soon.
Well, MY idea of serious cash, and YOUR idea of serious cash are two different things. But, as an example, I sold Auction-Resource-Alerts.com for $850. To me, that's serious cash! At least a lot more serious than the sales I see here which seem to be most often in the $10-$30 range! (Once in a while someone will buy a good domain at a reasonable price though.) Oh ya, it also had a PR-3. Pete
Absolutelly wrong. Not true at all. Might be having great luck otherwise it is not so. Regards, Toniya
Pete, that's a good return on Auction-Resource-Alerts (dot) com. Many of the domain sales here do not fetch as high of a price because many flip domains here as well. Congrats, and keep on selling!
