today i recieved this email , that this people want me to donate my domain u-dome. look at the email what i do? Dear Sir - Yesterday afternoon I registered the domain name www.u-dome.com for use as the brand and product name for the new dome shelter that our non-profit organization, World Shelters, has developed for disaster relief and humanitarian needs, as well as for individuals. Our dome marketing committee had researched available domain names and at our meeting yesterday there was a consensus that u-dome.com was the best brand/product/domain name available. My domain registrar, 1and1.com, then notified me that they could not complete the transaction. A whois search this morning indicates that you registered this domain name yesterday as well. I am executive director for World Shelters. I would like to request the courtesy of your providing the domain name u-dome.com to World Shelters. World Shelters is a struggling non-profit focused on providing shelter for humanitarian needs, The new dome is important for our growth, and the brand/product/domain name that we settled on, u-dome.com, was the result of extended research and discussions. We do not have funds to budget for a commercial transaction to purchase this domain name from you. We request that you donate the domain name ownership for u-dome.com to World Shelters. Please advise at the earliest possible moment. This issue is engendering a small-scale crisis for us. Thank you for your consideration and for your gracious assistance. Best regards, Bruce LeBel executive director World Shelters
Basicaly they are asking for your domain for free... It would be upto you.. If it was me; After making sure that these people are who they say they are, Donate the domain with two conditions, 1- A new domain purchase, they pay for your new domain. (not necessary) 2- Life time text link from their main page saying (courtesy of xxxxxx) Am I too cruel taking advantage of the situation ?
A couple of months ago, I had a similar request. It was real. And I "donated" the domain, just asked for the minimum money I had paid since I had backordered it and I am in a position in my life that makes me not able to give away money, and my time. My tip, in case you want to donate: 1 - Research if the company is real 2 - Ask Them to call you. Do Not call them. 3 - When they call, ask a few questions to see if it really seems to be true. 4 - After the call ends, decide if you should donate and send details by email for them to have the domain. Remember, these steps are necessary since they may be from an African country or simply someone just trying to get free emails. We never know.
No thats fair, they would of had to pay for registration anyway so reg fee is fair and a text link will cost them nothing if they prefer that instead.
That email is downright rude... "We request" is not the phrase any organization should use. I would reject this unless they are willing to pay you registration fee and prove they are an organization.
What??? Nothing is free in this world. Remember that. Who gave you a house? Nobody. You have to take care of yourself first, and than the rest. They should donate you 1.000$ and you can donate them the domain after that.
I would ask them to provide documentation that they are who they claim to be. I gave a domain away to a charitable org at one time, stock free. It was an experied I snagged up. But it was obvious they were legit..
world shelters? u-dome? where is the correlation? Why dont they go for something like theworldshelters, ws-dome.com or one of the other million choices that better fit thier foundation name...that is if they are who they say they are...
Well, this is what their email said, assuming it's posted in its entirety: One can always trust but verify before taking action. Do you even know the organization to begin with? Or are you too darn biased to care? If "we request" sounds rude to you, then you probably haven't seen the really worse "requests" yet. That "request" isn't even close to "rude".
well guys , this in an expetected... they call me to Argentina! i agreed to sell them the domain .. for about $100. So now i waiting the payment by paypal,, and i have to do the transfer..
Hope it turns out well for you, masquecompras. If you don't feel bad after all is said and done, then I'd say you made a good choice. If others say otherwise, that's their belief. Fortunately their belief doesn't at all have to be your reality.
I don't think it's legit, probably a scam. They could always register another name if this was the case.
They send another email with the agreement of $100 so now i request the money via paypal , i waiting for the payment.
For $100, I'd use escrow or another service, or at least document the whole thing. Domain transfers are pretty hard to prove to paypal and the whole thing seems pretty fishy to me.
