Someone wants to advertise on my site - I need advice.

To start off, I am still not confident in my website. It's about 3 to 4 months old and I sometimes struggle to get visitors in the triple digit range. Yet, I have received a few requests to advertise on my site. What do these people see? I think my website has potential, but as it is now, it's nowhere close to being moderate in size, let alone big.

Check out this email I got a few days ago:

This is huge! or am I just overreacting? Is this normal for a site like mine.? How should I respond to this guy and what should I be looking for?

P.S. the name, email and website of the solicitor have been changed to keep him anonymous.

I hate to say it but there very likely ad spammers. I get a whole load of emails like that on a personal blog of mine that has no pr, and only had 1 page indexed in google (the contact page). There are a lot of people who want to build ad platforms like adsense and they go around sending these generic letters to people about how they want to run ads on your site. Realistically they're usually really bad looking ad sites or they want to run some dangerous ads/spyware on your site and who knows if they'll actually even pay you.

Of course this could be real, in which case just contact them and get more info, if you feel comfortable than go for it. If it's a legitimate attempt at an ad then go for it, they probably see value in your site - and you should too.

Thank you for your advice, Slincon. It makes some sense. I will inquire more from this solicitor.

    AutoKwame,

I took a look at your site (so if this was link-baiting - it worked! lol) and I really think that could possibly be a genuine ad request. Your blog has a clean, attractive design and while it may not get tons of visitors at the moment, it very well could. If I were you I'd scope out the potential advertiser and see what they're willing to offer you. If it's an unproven ad network I'd avoid it since, according to what you're saying, your site isn't quite as developed as you'd like it to be. The main thing is it's about the advertiser's perception so if they perceive your site as being worth spending money you certainly won't want to turn that down since you could re-invest it in ads to draw customers TO your site :)

Just my thoughts, hope they help!
