Haha you can't be hacked, VB forums is a strong system and your passwords are encrypted inside the mysql database, someone is playing you people trying to scare you by trying a lot of passwords to lock the account, even brute forcing will take days to get your password and that happens in 0.00001% of the cases, your password is safe .

Guess the hacker has started accounts starting with 'b' Its good that DP has an account locking system after the unsuccessful attempts. Else it would have been much easy for the hacker.

I also got the same email and IP.
Well I think this person's main purpose is not to hack a single account but to use the account to hack the whole website. He might use it to penetrate on the db of some sort then hack the whole system.

This is good news. Lets see if there is any decrease in the number of users who have been coming and posting in the thread about their accounts being accessed.

That doesn't make sense - if he wanted a registered account he could just register.

Mike's account wasn't hacked - his email was! and then the account was stolen. After all if someone has your email they can request a new password, and once it's changed you have to have that email to get any further.

They don't need to view the members list to farm member ids.

It's a pretty lame way of trying to hack into accounts. You get a few tries and then you have to wait and return. Woohoo!

On the other hand the memberlist gives more inbound links to our profile, boosts that and boosts the outbound links on our profiles. Mine is only PR3 but I'm not complaining :)

Plus if you can't see it until 50 posts then it makes it harder for newbies to do due diligence on the people they are trading with - right when they should be learning that it's good practice!

Isn't it simple to block this ip from accessing DP ?

as he doesn't change his ip every time

and btw, he will never succeed so he is wasting his time here messing with accounts

I do believe he had success last time... at least, several accounts have been accessed since I've been a member here.

And yes, the IP can be banned, but that will only cause the person to change proxy servers...and banning proxy sites is rather futile.

    Dear an0n,

Your account on Digital Point Forums has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 74.53.243.34

Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Use the link below:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/login.php?do=lostpw

    All the best,
    Digital Point Forums

Maybe run an IP cross reference check, and see who this belongs to so we know who it is?
It would be very much appreciated.
