Someone stole my site!

Discussion in 'Legal Issues' started by Wyla, Apr 14, 2006.

Someone copied my site almost word for word (He changed some words and added some in) He copied my template exactly (along with title) and counter code (idiot). His site is a subdomain of zapto.org so I only get http://www.no-ip.com/ for a whois search. What should I do to get rid of him?

    Thanks

Legally I wouldn't know where to start.

But from a search perspective, I'd notify the top 4 (google, msn, yahoo, and ask) and report guideline abuse.

Why not start with zapto.org, ultimately the person is using their domain name.

Contact Zapto, advise them of the violator. Keep it clean, crisp and concise and they will exercise their TOS/AUP policy on the little hacker.

Try copy righting your content and programming is very cheap, they protect you for copyright

I am asking because I was on another forum where someone was upset that his site was stolen, word for word, graphic for graphic.
Come to find out, they were both using the same cookie cutter adsense website!

Reading along this tread I wonder how I might actually prove that somebody made a copy of my contents. It is easy to check for copied parts of a partivcualr webpage, e.g. by using copyscape. However - how do I prove that the culprit did it w.r.t. my site and not I w.r.t. his? Strange problem, I guess. Does somebody have a solution for that?

    Zapto.org forwards to www.no-ip.com . Should I contact them?

If this person has made some small modifications, then will dup content NOT be a problem? If you avoid dup content penalities then I dont reckon its worth the hassle , IME.

Lame. What is your sites URL? If it has been around long enough it should be in the wayback machine at archive.org which you can use as proof. Also, you should check to see if they are mirroring your updates as well. If they are, simply update your site saying they've stolen your site, and use that as proof.
