Someone stole my site name, now they're 2 entries below me in google.

I have the first 2 spots in google when entering the site's name. This leech has the 3rd and 4th spots because Wordpress got it indexed a few days after they registered the domain. I have the .com, and they have the .nl. It doesn't look like they have updated the site since. How can I push this .nl site down, so that my visitors do not accidentally go to it?

You can't really. Just focus on making your site better...people won't get confused between a .com and a .nl.

I don't want to say the site name, but our name is something like VeryUniqueSite.com. This is in our title, and so appears as the link on Google. Their titles are VeryUniqueSite. So, people will probably get them confused. I guess I will have to put something like OFFICIAL in the title. That really ticks me off!

I don't know what the site's name is but it is highly unlikely that the visitors would come by way of the name so it really doesn't create a problem.

The same thing has happened to me actually. I have owned a .com for about six years. Then some one came along and bought the .net a few months ago. The problem is I guess I should have bought it originally but I didn't think about that.

The system is set up that way. If there are numerous tlds, that is bound to happen. But I agree that a person is more likely to go to the .com than a .nl. I still think you are in a better situation.

correct me if i am wrong.

but your site would be written in english.
and the .nl site would be written in dutch.

so why would you be affraid that people will probably get confused

    Well you could :
    a) If you brand the name of your website then you could take legal actions for your trademark
    b) Well you could use black hat and bury that website in google

lol dtm. I get your point. But, I put a lot of effort into creating new content and getting in the search engines. So, I hate the thought of someone getting free clicks off of my work, especially when I'm convinced that they knew my site had already been created when they registered the .nl. I doubt they went straight for the .nl-most people try to register .com first. I just think they did it intentionally, which is what gets to me the most. And, the site is an entertainment site with pics, so visitors might continue to go to their site for the new pics despite not being able to read the content. But, I will see what happens.

I thought about getting the name trademarked, but didn't know how hard it would be to get the other site taken down, since it is in another country. My site has been up since August, I think. If you care to comment on the trademark issue, please let me know if that will make a difference.

If this site is very new, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Google will sandbox them shortly and their listing will disappear from the front page. If they aren't updating with original content, then they will never reappear, either, not without some serious seo work (which requires changing content, at least).

I guess the moral of the story is that if you do not wish for this to happen again, grab all the tld's for your site that you can and point them all back to the .com. At that point, you could potentially have the entire front page for your keyword(s).

For online business, trademarks are very important because without it, you can not do anything to your competitors who infringe your logo, domain name or etc..

no need for trademark, and that would be a bit late anyways.

just go make good quality posts and content.
dont use the blackhat, go for the social bookmarking and directory submissions to improve.

but thats just my 2 cents.

Knock him back to the second page with negative SEO. It will be quite simple to do going by the description of the site name.
