Someone stole my directory brand!

Discussion in 'Directories' started by Ibn Juferi, Feb 7, 2008.

As everyone knows, I am the founder and owner of Emporium Directory. The logo of my directory is as follows.

I just found out that someone has plagiarised my directory brand. Even worse, he stole my logo above and is trying to pass it off as his own! I don't think I can do much about it but I just want all directory owners to be aware of this theft.

    Thanks.

send an email saying that your lawyer is taking care of it. For 95% of the cases this will sort it out

Yes he has used the same logo, I think that by contacting the host, you can get his site down.

Basically if they change their logo but still continue with the directory there isn't much you can do. They are smart enough to get a domain name that is very close to yours.

Just send straight to their provider demanding they remove, the logo was copied, do not even need to request. It is VCTech's logo.

It wouldn't for me because in 95% of the cases i would know their bluffing and know they cant afford to or wont waste the money and time chasing up anything.

VCTech, im sorry to hear of that, in all honesty i think the most that you can do is contact their host and put in a complaint there.

contact their host and complain them, that's the best way to go about it.
But before that, it will be better if you contact that website and ask them to change their logo and get a new name for their directory!

VC, send a DMCA request to their hosting company asking them to remove the logo.

Will that not depend what country he is in, DMCA possibly for the states only?
this is why i always say theres not much can be done, using myself as an example i could steal any of your work today and simply ignore any legal threats from you, knowing virtually everyone doesn't have a logo etc worth enough to fight for and protect.

Internet is wide open to breaking the law for small timers where the chasing things up is simply a drain on time and any further action than that simply aint worth it.

If you haven't contacted the site owner, first do that..
and then take other copyright infringement actions.

Fortunately the plagiarised version looks as though a child designed it, whilst VCTech's does not.

Yes, but there are others listed in the page, such as the EUCD covering Europe and links to individual country copyright information.

Most hosting companies will however respond to a DMCA request.

Thats why the image mod needs to be finished ;)

Much like istockphoto they wont steal whats branded as it would
take more time to fix then to just make a new one...

    @VCtech...
Im not sure if you can do anything about this depending on where the person lives
you could take legal actions but it would cost in fees chasing him down.

I would suggest contacting them and asking him to remove what isnt theres...

    thx
    malcolm
