For no reason??? I would have to disagree here. You went to him and said to talk all about these things in his home (you were right!). He slapped you in return.. However what he did to you is unacceptable... You should have slapped him in return, instantly.. I know how it feels when someone slaps you in public (and that too for no mistake of yours...). Lodge a complaint with your local police station and teach that person a lesson.. (he cant just slap anyone on the road)..

You can't fight back, ( if u cld u wld have, then and there ) Just tell yourself that his father had died that day and he was informing his terminally ill mother about the demise on phone.And he let out the frustration on you. So forget it and move on
Don't do anything ...just leave it and go on with your life....one day he will regret and comes to you to say sorry....that show him what you can do......but the thing is you should do that.... make that day happen....
