Someone registered my website name on Twitter. How do I get it?

I wanted to register on Twitter under my website/brand name, but I found out that it's already been taken!

It doesn't even look like the account is active because there are zero tweets on it and I know the account has been registered for at least a month now.

Anyone know what I need to do in order to get Twitter to close the account and let me register it?

Hmm.. My target brand was also registered at twitter. There is no way but find other account names like adding Real at the end of it. :)

    Let's say: "Twitter.com/YourWebsite_REAL

or you could try emailing them. they will most likely want to charge you and it's your call whether it's worth it or not.

EDIT. by "them" i mean the guy who registered it

That's bu11$h!t, Twitter should hand over the account to the actual owner of that brand name, especially if the "fake" account is not even active.

Are you sure there is no way to request this?

You need a court order to that, to have them handover the name. Is your named trademarked? If not, then you have no case. If that person registered your site's name before your site is officially opened to public, then you don't have a case. I had the same thing happen to me, someone from Oslo registered name "Jihoy", so I am out of luck for now.

who the hell is to say who the name rightfully belongs to? the only way this can be decided is with a court case where the guy claims intellectual property over the name (i.e whoever has the most cash to spend on legal fees). twitter couldn't be diplomatic enough to say "oh, ok i think you should have the name", it's not in their business.
