    Hi,

Someone is selling me a .EDU domain name. Please share your experiences of buying / selling .edu domains. And let me know if there is something I should beware of.

    Thanks
    Ajeet

I think its a scam. EDU domains can only be bought by accredited US educational institutions.

Can't be done, even if somehow you were allows access to a .edu, it would be revoked by Educause

how much for it! if you get it real cheap, i.e >$20-30 , it's worth it, even for 24 hours. just get into the account and put your domain link there. .edu and .gov backlinks are precious!

Looks like a scam to me. As tobycoke said, you need to be an accredited educational institutions to get edu domains.

You can only acquire the .edu domain name if you bought over the US accredited school that it is linked to.

Check out the qualification for a .edu domain name

    http://www.educause.edu/edudomain/show_faq.asp?code=EDUELIGIBILITY

Transfers are not possible , see http://www.educause.edu/edudomain/show_faq.asp?code=EDUCURRENT#faq188

Yeap don't buy it, firstly you cant get it to transfer to you successfully, secondly even if you do, you will be terminated as soon as the registrar found out. Edu is the same as Gov you need the correct identity to register them.

I agree its most likely a scam. The only people that can have .EDU's besides institutions are people that are grandfathered in from owning the domain before all the current regulations came into place.

Not worth it. .GOV - .EDU domains will be taken away almost instantly.
