As someone who just uploaded the wp into a new blog of mine, I can only come up with maybe you did not load everything up correctly.
I loaded mine up via the cpanel and like I said, I have no problem.

Would this be a version that has been installed using cpanel fantastico by anychance?

I use WP and everytime I try to install it using fantastico I get this error as well. I went to the WP forum and it told me to make changes to my system (which was crap as it was working on another server). I just maually installed it, and it worked well.

This was how mines was installed that produced the error which was weird cause I installed WP using fantastico before without any issues.

I think it is the way some hosting companies configure the damn thing. Like I said, I just installed it manually on the same server and it worked fine.

Right, in your ../blog i had .htaccess and in that file i had loads and loads of links so i thought it was kind of weird so i just deleted it all and then made this:-

    Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^garrethboyd\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.garethboyd.com/$1 [L,R=301]
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^garethboyd\.com/blog [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.garethboyd.com/blog/$1 [L,R=301]
    RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.php\ HTTP/
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ http://www.garethboyd.com [R=301,L]

    ChEeRs BiG EaRs hehe :D
