I was googling one of my articles and so that a website had added my article into his site and removed the link back to my website. I then WHOIS the domain and got his email address and web host. I emailed him and told him to add my link text into the article, and also told him that if he did not want to do this he had to remove the article from his website. I also told him that if he did not remove the article or added the text i would have to contact his web host. Then my q here is.. Do i have the right to do this ? It is my article and he was breaking the TOS. The article has been submitted to a article directory website + is on my blog. Thanks for answer
I wonder if webhosts would intervene into this type of situation. Try to employ soft talk to the site owner.
Sadly it happens all the time, I just send them a polite email, that's if they have a contact button, of course.
most hosts clearly state in their TOS that they do not allow content to be hosted on their servers that is a copyright infringement...By all means do contact the guy's host!
It happened to me once and I emailed the guy, provided him with the proof that it was my content, and told him I was going to contact his registrar and host if he did not respond by removing the content within x number of days (I think I used 7 days). He responded and removed the content from his site in less than a day. It's definitely worth a try!
It happens all the time. If the site is just a new one, don't have much traffic, and are just collections of free articles, I usually don't bother with it. But that may be just me. You may start by contacting the site owner.
My question is what if i cannot find their host, for a specified domain how can i find out which hosting company host their websites? It makes negative motivation if someone steals your article and generates income from it.
I say you should send them a mail explaining the situation and give them a deadline to remove the article.
I sadly fear that the webhost will not bother themselves. They only seem to bother when their system is affected such as mass emails etc. They would answer that it's not their place to police the web unless its in direct conflict with their TOS which usually involved warez or porn sites. But hey it's worth a go and good luck. PS - This has happened to me many times and the odd threat sometimes works. Regards JohnT
Nice! Next time put your link within the article, make it part of the article. If it's a somewhat long article, mention it twice. But don't make it live. Meaning, it can't be clicked. They have to copy and paste it in their address window. If they like you article, they wil do it. If they don't, well, they wouldn't click on your live link anyway.
You got the right to do that cause its your article and they got off your site. and breaking your TOS.
