Hi, Recently, one of my competitors' website has been under attack by DDoS. The thing is, he thinks it is me. On the frontpage of his site, he wrote Is there any action I can take? Is he doing anything illegal? Can this be counted as harassment? Thanks, this is an emergency, as my email inbox is being flooded now.
I would certainly think it's grounds for harrassment if his accusations are unfounded. It's certainly libelous in any case. Not sure what action you can take offhand.. maybe contact his host?
Thanks for the info. Any ideas on how to word the email to his host? I don't want to sound like a child "threatening to sue." xD
It is certainly defamation because he has destroyed your good will with anyone who knows of your e-mail address, and it also subjects you to SPAM, etc. The website would also be subjected to Google caching and your e-mail will never disappear from the internet resulting in damages that cannot be stopped. We have two options: 1) Sue him 2) If his webhost is one that enjoys disrupting its users (like GoDaddy), then we can contact their abuse department and demand that they disable the website/domain name for violating your right to privacy.
set an autoresponder to write "Dameon Error" and people will think the e-mail isn't valid anymore, at least they'll stop harassing you for a while.
