Somebody wants to buy my domain

    Hello

    2 days ago I registered several info.domains. Today i got this e-mail:

    Hello,

We've found your domain for sale after visiting several auction sites.
Please submit your price for consideration.
We are in software development and support business (contractors of large corporation)
At this time we are considering domain investing and reselling as additional direction of our investment strategy.
Looking forward to do business with you.

This e-mail was personally signed (name + organisation).

Because this is all very new to me I'm asking for your opinions. Can I trust this? Should I name a price? And what would be reasonable? Or should i just let them make an offer? I also wonder if it is possible to sell this domain without interference of the auction site. They would ask for their part if they know.
You have to understand that for privacy reasons I can't post more details here.

    Thank you

I could be a scam. Once you list a price they will ask for a 'domain appraisal' done by a domain appraiser that they recommend (and are affiliated with). Once you have paid for the appraisal they will no longer be interested in your domain. If they want an appraisal then they should pay for it themselves.

Have you done any research on the "name & organization"

While scams are common, you should still do research and respond accordingly. If it turns out to be an appraisal scam... so be it... but if they are serious, you could have a sale on your hands.

It's always worth looking into, IMHO.

    Much Success

Right there is the important part of the message. Did you in fact list your domain in any auction sites?

I think not. My friend this is a known scam.

This is probably a scam. Be careful.

There are scams where they try to get you to pay for an appraisal.

Respond with your price and see how they respond. It will be the only way to find out if it is 100% a scam or not.

When you get a response to your offer from them, post here and we can give you some further guidance. Good luck.

It also doesn't have to be a scam. Try to suggest a reasonable price (if you want to sell the domain) and see how they react. To get a rough idea of the value of your domain, I would advise you to look for similar sales on namebio.com

If they accept the price, I wouldn't use anything else than Escrow.com for the transaction / domain sale. You are well protected with them and if the company won't agree to use Escrow, they are likely to be a scammer.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your comments and advice. It has been a great help :)

    I'm sure now it's a scam:

-He didn't want to make an offer, but kept insisting that I should give a minimum price
-He claims to represent a software company but hasn't even got a website.
-maybe most important: I have found an identical e-mail on another forum

Yeah, chalk it up as another scam. Glad you were smart enough to ask here and research a little bit first.

Make it be under your terms - you dont hand it over until you get a cash payment, and the contract is signed by both of you.
