10 months ago i purchased this plan http://www.netfirms.com/max from netfirms hosting. Believe me it was a trap.
I have a fully developed website on there servers now with a SQL database.
There were issues with there service earlier but I thought I can carry on with this service.
There are huge server downtimes Very Very Very Slow speeds etc etc. most of the time the pages dont even load.
Now I have bought another account with another webhosting company and I am hosting a few of my sites on the other server.
And now my package with netfirms is expiring so I thought I should move my site to other hosting.
But I have tried this a hundred times I am unable to download my SQL database from netfirms.
The server times out all the time.
At this time I can not move my database I have sent a hundred emails to there but they never reply.
I hope to get more tarffic to my site after I move it to a better server.
Is there a way I can get out of this shit Hole.

I could help you do the SQL backup etc. Since you want to move already so I think it should be okay if you give me the username and password to you cPanel.

I will then PM you the link where you can download your sql. If you worried that I get your password etc you can change it to a temp password (this would be nice)

Please try to backup your database at another ftp location. I mean buy a hosting account. Login to present host and send backup file directly to a folder at new host. For example, if you are familiar with cPanel, there is an option either to download backup on your own PC or send this to another server.

    I hope I am clear.

One more thing - this is clear that this account cannot be cPanel migrated.

    Good luck.

    Looks like there is:

    http://support.netfirms.com/idx.php/84/509/article/How-do-I-use-phpMyAdmin.html

Although I have to admit that I would be trusting someone out of the blue like this.

Gotta admit that the only real solution is to deal with support and try to have the issue raised to a higher support level. I tried netfirms once, was gone three days later, and wound up having to do a charge back on the credit card to get my money back.

edit: With any host, before signing up I would google the company name followed by the word 'sucks' as in 'netfirm sucks' just to see what comes up.

With me, I only get a single hit and that's that loon in Texas who I booted for spamming.

But yet when folks find out that I charge $7.95 a month/$50-60 a year, they're in major shock and point at companies like Netfirms with a "If they can do it, why can't you?!"

Of course they can't. Companies like them are what give webhosting a bad name. Folks think that if one company provides bad service, they all do.

At least they finally removed their "24/7 hour support" banner from their site. A "tech" there tried to tell me that since they receive support emails, that means they offer 24/7 support. Their support, last time I checked, was only 8/5 with weekends off.

I think bigdump is for importing large DB files not exporting.

I dont think it was a bad deal, for 20$ they give away 2 free domain names + 50$adwords +50 $facebook voucher +one year hosting

I sold the adwords voucher for 8 $ and facebook voucher for 3$ here on DP.
One of my domains which I got from this hosting is a PR1 now.

Domain renewal is just 7$. Godaddy also charges you 7$ for renewals.

This was my 1st time buying anything online. Previously I had my blogs hosted on Blogger.

Yes there support + hosting really suck
But trust me there are better hosting providers available for even cheaper price. e.g. magmahost.com gives 40 gb bandwidth for just 1$ a month $ 10 $/ year. I am currently using them and yes I am verymuch satisfied with there service and support.

I will find way to solve this problem some how.

It's not a bad deal but look at it this way. If you saw a car for $20, what would you think?

    - For drug money
    - It's stolen
    - It belonged to the ex
    - There's three dead bodies in the back
    - There's no engine

Is good gas mileage or comfortable ride or a clean repair bill anywhere in there? Nope.

Also remember that with 2 domains, they're turning around and paying out $13 to Network Solutions to register those domains. That means $7 is actually paying for your hosting. (Not counting the vouchers) That's about 2 cents a day. Do you really think a company can survive on 2 cents a day per customer in today's tech market.

Costs me about $145 to run a box for a month once I figure in support, electric, rack fees, backups, software costs, etc. That doesn't include debt service on the server either so it's even more than that. (I own my own servers.)
