Some way to Darken Pictures in Photoshop?

I'm new to photoshop cs3 extended, and I just want to darken one of my photos all around, drop the lighting to give it an overall darker look. I'm not sure the technical word for it, help?

 

Go to:

Image

Adjustments

Brightness/Contrast

 

i would suggest you use the levels to darken the overall picture.
To reach levels you go to: Image>Adjustments>Levels
(or the shortcut key; windows: CTRL+L ; mac/apple: CMD (apple)+L)

CTRL + M to open levels and play around with the settings until your happy

 

A very easy way to darken faded images is simply to change the blending mode from "normal" to "multiply". After taking that step, try understanding how levels adjustment works, by playing around with it.

 

wont look good unless u use mask or quick mask to gradually darken certain areas

 

The best way is to duplicate the layer and set the blend mode to multiply, then use a mask to reveal unwanted areas darkened
