Hi, I'm quite new here.. so just tell me if i'm out of line..

I think that "I reserve the right to not sell" should not be allowed..

The thing with the auction is that sometimes the OP will say bid starts at $1 or some ridiculously low amount and then when the auction didn't go well, for example with 1 or 2 bids only, they just say that they won't sell at such low price...

I mean come on.. If you expected at least $50 for it then start the bidding at $50.. If you want to sell it at a fixed price.. just say you're selling it at the price rather than starting at $1.. It is just wasting everybody's time.. starting it so low.. and then saying you're not gonna sell...

just my 2cents.. what do you guys think..

Yep, I agree. The same goes for setting a reserve. eg. Setting a $50 reserve and starting the bidding at $1.

If someone stated it, then indeed they can choose not to sell before, while or after the auction starts. Even if they forgot or refuse to state it, no one can do anything because DP isn't an auction site.

Quote from jhmattern ( different thread but similar meaning):
Whether to obey or don't obey the seller's rule, it's your choice.

I agree that DP isn't an auction site.
But still, if someone put up an auction, received payments and then not deliver the item. A DP mod will ban him. By By the same argument, the mod should just let the scammer runs free on the forum because it's the buyer's own fault that he trusted the seller.
The iTrader, is another example how DP isn't an auction site yet have features to help makes the process easier and scam free.

Granted backing out of an auction is not as serious as a scam, but there's no reason not to try to make the auctions a little better.

We're not an auction site. We don't force people to do business here. A lot of auctions are held across multiple sites at once, and not only here. And reserve prices and such are commonplace in auctions.

And because we don't get involved in individual deals, we won't be able to (nor do we want to) police such things.
