Hi, I was reading through my history of stats just now and noticed that when I started in October 2003 I was getting a click through rate as high as 40%. The site was only getting about 100 visitors and maxing out at about 400 impressions. I then did a few more reports on the trends and noticed that as my site increased its visitors and hits the clicks decresed. Both in CTR and just the amount of clicks I was getting. SO I went from getting 25 - 50 clicks down to 7, 1 and sometimes none! It seems that the more hits you get on your site and the more content for people to go through the less they click off of the site. An interesting point and one worth considering when making a new site!!
That makes perfect sense. Why should a surfer be interested in what your ads have to offer... if you already present them with everything they need?
exactly and a worth while tip to newbies. I now know that rather than attempting to attract a vast amount of visitors I need to attract a smaller niche amount
*takes tongue out of cheek* essentially what i am saying is I was better off when I had less visitors, but they were the early days of adsense. as said above, content selection and placement is very important
I've also noticed this. When people find what they are looking for on your site, they won't click on ads. Also, if your site is interesting and sticky, people will browse around your pages, instead of clicking, which will further decrease CTR. Also, if you have a webmaster related site, very few webmasters would actually click on ads. That's what I see on one of my sites.
> Why should a surfer be interested in what your ads have to offer... if you > already present them with everything they need? Well, I hope my visitors click on ads, when they want to buy something. That's what protects me from smartpricing.
