Ok, well i seem to be noticing some patterns here: 1) Some people rank high in yahoo, but not in google. 2) Some rank high in msn but not in others. 3) Some rank high in google but not msn or yahoo. I rank high and get lots of traffic from google. For example if you search for "xml curl", or "post ajax", i pop up first (atleast on first page). I've also thought looking at my statistics, that i never get many hits from msn, so i assumed i dont rank high in it. So i search some of my keywords that i rank high on google (on first page), i find out im ranked #1 in all my keywords. Yet NO ONE has clicked them so far. So i assumed maybe its the same for yahoo, so i search all over yahoo picking key words that i would rank high on. I'm no where in site. Link: works on yahoo for my website, but not on google (something else really strange). I haven't gotten one single hit from yahoo ever. Anyway, then it popped in my head, that perhaps there are some things that are going fishy around here. Like the talks i hear on forums: "I switched to YPN and my rank suddenly fell on google, and my yahoo rank increased"... Some say coincidence, but sometimes coincidence occuring over and over can be a sign. Anyway The reason i'm posting is I want to take a survey. To compare data to see if there is something special that some search engines like and others dont: Just reply with this format: 1)comments: 2)Which Search Engine(s) you rank best in?: 3)Do you use YPN, Adsense, or neither?: 4)Do you use any RSS/XML feeds in your site?: 5)Do you do anything special SEO-wise?: 6)What type of site is your website (blog or forum or content or all)?: 7)What's your PR? 8)Lots of out-going links? Mine is: 2) Google, MSN. 3) Adsense. 4) No 5) I put lots of content 6) forum and content 7) PR 0, RK (realpagerank) use to be 5, dropped to 4 during that datacenter-talk for some odd reason (nothing was changed). 8) I suppose.
i looked at a website like searchengineengine.com also, I am building something like it (to experiment) so I see it all the time. (Although illegal in google ToS),
1)site tanked after Jagger 2)MSN then Y 3)Both 4)No 5)Common SEO 6)Content/Commerce 7)4 8)almost none
1) Next time I recommend to use polls for this kind of surveys. 2) MSN, Yahoo & Google 3) Adsense 4) Yes 5) Yes 6) all 7) Different in different websites. 8) Yes, In some of the websites
Hmm... also can u mention if you are in Y!Directory Because then you rank in yahoo well. I'm not in it for example. Perhaps I don't rank in yahoo well, because I don't have RSS/XML, YPN, or in Y! directory. Perhaps that has something to do with it. A poll wouldn't work as that would only require 1 option per person.
Isn't it obvious that all 3 SE's use different ranking methods? Otherwise there would have been no point in having different SE's... Short, and not complete, differences. MSN: Loves both on-page and backlinks, with emphasis on backlinks Google: hardly cares about on-page and loves backlinks Yahoo: loves on-page and cares less about backlinks If you rank well in MSN/Google and not in Yahoo changes are very likely that your on-page optimisation is not what Yahoo is looking for. That and it normally takes more time to see ranking improvement in Yahoo.
please clarify what you mean by on-page optimization? Do you mean internal-linking? I know all of them have different ways to rank, i'm just trying to find an important key factor in them. Since we know the basic ones, like google loves backlinks... I didn't know that yahoo didn't like backlinks, but i mean my point was to see if YPN/adsense, RSS, XML, or any other important feature in websites might have something to do with it. "your on-page optimisation is not what Yahoo is looking for." What does yahoo look for?
With on-page optimization I mean the words used on the page itself. I honestly believe that none of the features you mention have any benefit in itself, it depends on how it is used. It is a little bit on the old site, but still remains current. A thread on how to optimize for Yahoo by Seo Guy, http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread2091.html
Well I have H1 tags. I hate meta KW, i have meta Description. I have keyword titles. So you're saying the reason i dont rank well in yahoo is because I don't have many P and H2, H3 tags? I find that hard to believe. I'm still under suspicion some other things also apply.
1)yup I agree with tfbpa on this one. it's obvious that se's have different algo's especially for in-demand keywords. 2)I rank best in MSN, but getting hits (and good ranks, so far) from both in yahoo and google 3)neither 4)no rss, but thinking about it.. 5)well, simple SEO techniques, like filenames and such. 6)ecommerce 7)PR 3 8)err, less than 50 outgoing links.
1)hate google (not just incase they see this) 2)yahoo,msn,bbc,lycos,dogpile,alltheweb,wanadoo infact i will say all but google is still to come i give it 3 months and i will be there 3)Adsense on only one of my sites 4)RSS/XML do on some soon will be all 5)i do all SEO and if its something clever lol i could not tell people 6)sellings, conetents, forums 7)PR4, PR0, PR6 and more 8)Nope not really i have lots of incoming links not got many yet
I think this because all search engines have different algorithms to follow, their working is totally different and moreover their ranking factors vary with time and differences. All have separate designs and algorithms.
