I've got a website, http://www.gamingdl.com that has been up a year. A friend and I both worked on this for a year, had fun trying to build a community but now I want to see if it has some worth as far as getting income. I don't know much about getting PR, or marketing, and don't want to spend much money, I just want to see if its possible to get PR naturally. Thanks!
I dont think you would have a problem getting links naturally or asking for link exchanges with other gaming sites. I would start submitting the site to some directories as a start and ask some members on here for link exchanges, there are plenty of game site owners on here.
Be careful about site directories. They can look spammy if you're not carelful/picky, and Google doesn't like that. I'd say, first try the link exchange which is a more "personal" way to start. Then, possibly comment on people's blogs, but RELATED blogs. So, use ask.com's blog search, and search for gaming blogs. Then, leave relevant and insightful comments on those blogs. You will start to increase the links, and receive more visitors. And then, these visitors might start linking to you...
If you havent already noticed, I put some visible keywords on my front page. I've seen several sites with these, and I used a tool to get the best keywords for my page. Will google get angry if I have too many keywords too quickly? Like wise with links? How many links should I get max per day?
Number of links per day can depend on a lot of things, but unless you really start spamming, you should be fine. I mean, realistically, how many could you get in a day. Also, depends on how old your site is. I'm no SEO expert, but I would say don't really go for more than 10 links a day if you're a new site... And, DAMN did I notice your keywords. Let's see, from memory, what were they?: free games sign up ---- Can't say it made "human" sense... And, check your page for spelling mistakes. I think I saw an obvious one there on the first line or so. In big letters...
One way I heard of recently to get a forum up and running, and people joining/linking to it is to run a competition or 2. When you say "not spend much money" how much is not much. In my book, that's "nothing", but in yours it might be $50, or something... See if there's anything that your members would like to win. Possibly even something "lame" like a t-shirt, or a game. Of course, I might be missing the point completely here ;-)
Hi Skynt. You need to work to get PR to your site. Currently the site is PR0. Another thing you can try and do is to use the site in your sig. You have 85 posts here, so might as well get these 85 links to your site In links, everything counts.
