    Hi all,

I couldn't find such a thread, so I'm opening one.
Can some of you explain me the steps to creating and promoting a ebook?

    1. Is it sufficient to create it in Adobe Reader?
    2. How do you keep others from changing the author name and selling it as it was theirs?
    3. Are there any sites where you can list your ebook for sale?
    4. Any other useful tips?

Can anyone share some experience? Thanks!

    1. You can use Open Office and "Export as PDF" - that will do.
    2. You don't
    3. Yes. Clickbank comes to my site.
    4. Yes:
    - Focus on providing value to your customer, don't focus on "what if other rip me off"
    - Do joint ventures: promote your ebook via help of other people
    - Consider building a list of subcsribers first and giving them good free stuff. After that you can sell them your ebook too
    - Don't price too low. High price = (perceived) High Quality. And Perceived Quality is all what matters Quality is in the eye of the Beholder

    Good luck with the sales.

    Er....
"2. How do you keep others from changing the author name and selling it as it was theirs?"

You turn on the security options. Not sure if this can be done via the Open Office functionality, but other PDF creators can do it.

    Hope that helps,
    Andy

You can use pdfedit which is a free Ebook creator and offers security. Just search for PDF995 on google.

You really think that will stop others stealing your content? :p
If they can see it, they can steal it. :)

Open Office does have that capability. Open Office is the best alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro if you can't afford AAPro.

What it boils down to in my opinion is that if your ebook is on IM then people will steal the content. If it's on another subject then it will get stolen much less.

If you're asking these kinds of questions then you might not know enough about IM to write an ebook on it anyway.

    Just my thoughts.

As Game Producer rightly says, there's no possible way to completely prevent people from stealing your content. That shouldn't stop you from trying though. The more security measures you take, the more chances of intellectual property theft you weed out. Put in some legal notices, copy protection scripts etc but ultimately concentrate on the content.

My "helpful tip" would be to design an enticing affiliate page for your product and promote that instead of advertising your main sales page itself. This way, you can recruit affiliates much faster than you usually would, waiting around for them to come, find you. More affiliates = more sales. This isn't true *everytime* but it's true most of the time ;)
