I've exchanged links with a site which has about 1,000 pages indexed in Google. My link is in form of an image which is sitewide, so it appears on any page. Does this mean I will get about 1,000 backlinks from this site? One from each page that is indexed ? I've checked with other sites that have been link partners with this one for years and they only have about 100 backlinks from this one site (according to Yahoo explorer). Why don't you get one for each page ? Also, are image backlinks seen as much much less good than text links ? The link wasn't bought or anything, it's just the way this particular website handles partners.
It will take time for search engines to to index the pages your link is on. Over time you will get 1000 or more backlinks showing in yahoo etc. Image links aren't usually as good as text links but using alt text has some benefit.
No reason why not if the site has pr to pass on. PR has little value though unless you are selling links.
It does take the spiders quite a while to do things sometimes. The spiders don't spider a whole site, which I have never understood why they come and leave without finishing the job. Just give it some time you will see results, hopefully sooner than later.
Right, thanks for the replies. I too have read that about 100 links on a page is most one should have, otherwise very little PR will be passed to the pages. But, on my site I have more than 100, however a high majority of these are internal - actually there are only 15-20 external links. And then there are also the pictures links - these will dilute the pr juice being passed to the main menu pages unfortunately, will they not ? And I have at least 40 picture links on one page most of the time :\. What would a good suggestion be ? I was going to add nofollow links to the comments links as I don't need them, or shouldn't I ?
