I'm in the process of getting a website set up and creating keywords is my next task. So I have a few questions that I hoping people here might be able to help me with! Should I have the same keywords on more than one page of my website? Is there a recommended number of keywords to use? I was thinking between 10 -15. Should I have descriptions on any page that I would like to appear in Search engines? My website is related to part time learning. If one of my keywords is 'course', would I also need to include 'courses'. Likewise should both 'Canadian courses' and 'courses in Canada' be included?
@BLeon24 read my comment below in green: Should I have the same keywords on more than one page of my website? Best practice is to create a single page for a topic and use keywords related to that topic on that page. Because if you use same keywords for more than one page, it means you have multiple pages for a single topic. It will confuse Google, which page to rank. Is there a recommended number of keywords to use? I was thinking between 10 -15. It doesn't make sense to use number of keywords, in-fact it can penalized as keyword stuffing. So the best practice for keywords optimization are: Use main keyword in Page Title and URL Use variations in meta description and content with natural way (Although Meta description can't impact on ranking but still it can increase CTR) Use variations in Internal linking Use variation in alt tag Should I have descriptions on any page that I would like to appear in Search engines? Google displays meta description on search query basis in search results. But still you need to add meta description by adding relevant keyword, it can help to boost CTR. My website is related to part time learning. If one of my keywords is 'course', would I also need to include 'courses'. Likewise should both 'Canadian courses' and 'courses in Canada' be included? Yes you can use both, in-fact you should also use other variations on above suggested places in point 2.
Hi Bleon, First make a plan of attack. Make a list of keywords that you want to be found by and use them. First Question: You can have 1-2 keywords that you place on all the pages, but in general a good practice is to use keywords related to the displayed page. 2: In general you could go after 1% keywords, but be careful and don`t overdo it. Read the page a few times after you finish it, if it looks like you have exaggerated with the use of keywords then you will have to redo the page and use less of them. More important than the number of keywords is the place you put them (quality > quantity) 3: Yes, descriptions are good to have on every page 4: Yes, it is a good practice to use as many variations of your main keyword as you can
My two cents here are to follow the advice of both the gentlemen before me and; Do prior research. Bring your keywords into google and use the google suggest feature to see what people are actually searching for. You can optimize for all the keywords you want, but if people are not searching for them. Whats the point. Google suggest, and the suggestions at the bottom of the search are good indicators as well Google adwords is a good place to start finding keywords as well.
