What would happen to the domains that are registered with companies like godaddy or namecheap etc went bankrupt one day or they had some kind of computer breakdown?

Also why is it that the prices are so different on certain TLDs depending on which service you use?

Companies often start showing signs of difficulties early on as opposed to a company quickly going bankrupt, like Northern Rock Bank where the customers flooded in to withdraw their money after the banks heavy borrowing.

Godaddy for example would have backups of everything, even if every place went on fire at the same time, they would most likely have everything backed up at some other place too as an extra backup plan. :) its in their best interests.

Namecheap is a reseller of Enom as far as I am aware, so you would probably be able to take it up with them.

As FKA pointed out, there would most likely be a similar situation that happened with Registerfly where Godaddy got the domains. Goaddy will never go bankrupt, they are making huge profits...
