Looks like, you are one steps behind to upgrade your board. You have successfully upgraded your files to latest version but the database is still not upgraded. You will need to run upgrade.php file to upgrade your database.

I am not sure in automatic SMF upgrade but when you upgrade your SMF manually, you will find upgrade.php file in the root folder of your SMF. upgrade.php only requires if there is database upgrade from previous version. It will just execute few SQL queries.

If you upgrade your SMF, make sure that all the files and folders that will be affected in the upgrade have a permission of 777. You should make a back-up of your forum site and its database before you make any upgrade.
