I noticed that too, and I believe it is because a lot of junk, spam posts have been deleted and thus the reduction in overall count. Even though posts have been deleted references for infractions remain
I will see what I can find out. We routinely delete posts made by posts members that pad their post count. Have you been on the DP welcoming committee posting welcome notices to every Tom, Dick, and Harry or posting nice site over and over? As I suspected: Here are examples of a a long list of posts of yours that are subject to infractions and deletions. Thanks for the lists!! Welcome to DP!! Enjoy! ... Yesterday you sequentially posted 9 "WElcome to DP! Enjoy!" type messages.
Yes, I am guilty I only needed 9 more posts when I logged in to break 1000 so I opted for the quickies
This morning I had about 500 more posts than I currently have. Does anyone have any idea of wehat might have happened? It is weird that exactly 500 posts would be missing and/or removed. Thanks in adnace for any help or insight...
Short posts like, nice site, welcome to DP come under heading of posts made to pad your post count. When we find such posts we either delete them or adjust your post count downward. I will check your posting history. It seems you are prone to making a significant number of welcoming posts.
How do we see how many posts we have in the intro section? I usually try to welcome Kentuckians when they arrive, but that is certainly far and few between. PS. nice move, now, general chat going that way too?
When I did welcome people I usually tried to make it useful with something more than 'welcome' where I might ask them some questions about interests or why they joined. I guess I must have had some less meaningful ones and those were all removed. Just as an FYI - the main reasons I would post in the 'Introductions' section had nothing to do with post counts, it had to do with actions from the new members. When I welcomed them, many of them would check out my signature links and/or I might find a new friend or business partner on a project as they would often PM me afterwards. I guess that makes sense. Thank you for the update.
