I have had to erase web sites for penis enlargement pills and breast reduction pills from the directory several times now. You'd think the person that keeps submitting them would figure out they are not acceptable. Anyway, one of the trials of having auto-accepted entries with email verification. Looks like I'll be adding a ban system to the directory shortly, so I won't have to continually delete the same sites over and over again. [/rant] I will admit I didn't send an email right away...
Even with an IP ban it never stops...It's just one of those things that goes with the territory, owning a directory.
A word and domain filter is essential once your directory gets even a little popular. If you don't list adult sites, you can there are some phrases that you can near enough guarantee will only be associated with junk submissions.
I am using eSyndiCat Script for one of my directory and i also face same problem. i decided to ban one domain but guess what! the guy is now submitting diffenent subdomains to my directory
do that first. dont ever accept submissions automated, because it will put you into lots of work. good luck !!!
Yeah, I agree with your points... What I'm going to do, because who knows if the email address is right or not, is ban domains. It's instant, permanent and very little effort on my part. I know it isn't that expensive, but it does cost money to register a new domain and try to sneak it by me. So, unlike much spam, there is a cost disincentive involved, which I consider important and effective. At the same time, I'll consider using "keywords" as a way to alert myself to items that are a priority for review. If porn or questionable material is sneaking into the directory, I'd like to review it and remove it fairly quickly. However, I do have to say the person in question didn't do anything wrong, as I hadn't asked them to stop putting it back in until I posted here, so I don't want them to think I'm slamming them in any way (in case they are from here).
Very true. Although I only have had one adult site submitted out of the two directories I have. I banned the site and IP. But I guess I am fortunate enough not to have had anymore submitted.
I'm seeing that we may need a way to ban keywords from the title of submissions. Do you think it would be a big difference if we added this feature?
I'm not using PHPLD, but I'd suggest having various title and description filtering levels. - Adult filtering. - Excessive capitalization filtering. - Excessive punctuation or non-letter characters in title. I particularly hate when people try to make themselves look special with things that just cheapify the entire page immediately. ***>>> My Crappy Site <<<*** -+-+ Another Cheesy Spam Load -+-+ Oh man, this has to be a pet peeve of mine in things like advertising coops and so on as well as directory entries. Here you try to have a professional site and crap links with this type of thing shows up on your page. P.S. I don't know if anybody on DP does this, so I am not slamming anyone knowingly or on purpose...
Just remove the entries and move on Your site is only one on a list of 1000 they probably hit in a day.
Well, I guess you can only ban them now. If they keep coming back just leave it there pending and at the end of the month delete them all Not the best advice but better than stressing about it everyday and deleting them.
In 3.06 it will be possible to delete multiple submissions at one time. It is similar to webmail such as squirrel mail. You can just check boxes (or even "select all") and then delete. This is already functioning in our dev version. That should help a lot!
That would be an awesome feature and probably make me finally upgrade to 3.0. Will you also be able to select all then approve multiple submissions, and still have it send the confirmation emails? If it can do that to, you just sold 5 new licenses
LOL. Well, mines a "roll your own" solution... but I woke up this morning to what I believe to be the same guy creating a "duplicate" entry on different domains. That gave me the push to actually go and implement some banning features...
