Is it legal for me to go out and buy a shotgun and if some one went through my car and i went out and shoot them would this be illegal in washington state. Some one came in stole a bunch of my stuff what if i went out there and shot him would i be responsible and would a lawsuite happen?
contact a local lawyer and ask them. i kinda doubt it. not long ago some guy in Texas shot to death 2 people who had robbed his neighbors home. he shot them in the back and he wasn't charged.
Shooting someone because they stole your stuff isn't really a proportionate punishment. Far better to drag him into your home, shoot him and then plant a razor sharp knife in his hand. You can't shoot someone out in the street. Even if he did rob you, you would be treated like a terrorist madman.

I don't think dragging him into your home would be a good idea. CSI would inevitably find the cloth fibers from his outfit, imprints from the sole of his tennis shoes in the dirt, and quite possibly his fingerprint somewhere it shouldn't be.
