Hi ive recently embarked on a link building quest, and ive been wondering a few things and hope you can clear things up for me 1) Are recipricol links really that bad 2) If i submit my submit to many directories will it hurt my SERP 3) What is a link farm 4) When I post on sites and it asks for my website address and then a link is included with my name as the anchor text is this still a back link or does the link need to be posted within the comment box 5) Is there anything that would be considered a major no no Thanks for all your replies in advance
1. Reciprocal links from related sites are not bad but one way links are better. Reciprocal links from directories can be considered bad (if you are not a directory) 2. Submitting to directories doesn't hurt. Submit to 100s in a day and google will take 6 months in indexing those pages. 3. Link farm are sites with more links than content and they tend to accept all types of links. This is not the accurate technical definition but that's the gist 4. It's still a backlink. Though the anchor text may not be relevant to your site. 5. Some people don't like buying links (I think they are fine ).. There are MANY no nos for SEO
I would like to address #5. That some people referred to hear is "Google" and they have only banned the practice for links that pass juice and can affect the SERP's. So that someone is very important. Google also takes a dim view on link networks and farms.
I meant 'some folks on the forum'. And you are right about google. They don't like people buying and selling links for PR and SERPS. They are find with advertisements and sponsor links if they are nofollow
Yes Reciprocal linking is dead.. get one-way unique links from blogs at http://www.contextual-style.com
Reciprocal linking is not dead, its just less effective than one way links. But when you are doing sitewide reciprocal linking, then within 3 minute time, you can get like thousands of links to your site, and that is priceless. Cheers
Hi I would definately avoid link farms or paying for links. The best links are from high ranking PR sites with very few outgoing links. Paul
