I have a couple questions for anyone with some experience as an ebook publisher. What program(s) did you use? Why that one? In your opinion, which is better format, PDF or EXE ? Thanks! Deanna
If your just looking to create some PDF ebooks try searching for tomohawk. Its free and you can insert links into your document as easy as you place links on a webpage. You can also turn it into a pdf with just one click. Hope this helps
I have no experience as an ebook publisher but I can tell you as a consumer I truely hate the .exe format ebooks. I simply can't be sure that the executable doesn't contain spyware or similar software and therefore I never purchase or run them. I would suggest PDF format, even though it might run the risk of being spread about the p2p networks... just about everything is nowadays.
If i wanted to get my pdf spreaded around the p2p networks what would be the best way to go about it.
Surely .exe's have as much chance of being spread around as PDFs? Anyways, I'm on a unix workstation most of the day, and rarely read ebooks in the evening - so an .exe would never get read by me. But I'm sure I'm a small part of the population. But don't forget Mac owners and any other platform that is stubbornly holding on.
If I were you I would absolutely NOT make in into an .exe... as it was said above you NEVER can be sure that there isn't a virus/adware/spyware contained within it. PDF is the way to go!
Good points. Yes exe format is just as easy to spread on the p2p networks... but as an exe file format, you can program it to require registration in an attempt to prevent piracy. I'd still go with PDF, it's probably easier to sell.
Have you used Ellen's services before? I noticed it's a pr2 and I would expect an expert in the field of Ebook Marketing to do better than that. Please don't take that the wrong way, it's just that I'm a little concerned. Thanks!
1. Use Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) for e-book/PDF creation-- it's free, easy to use, exports to PDF format 2. Create a PDF -- everyone can open the file 3. No one will be concerned with viruses etc.
Got to agree with most of the folks here - go with PDF, it's almost a standard in eBook publishing these days. The .exe format was big when eBooks first made a splash. Adobe have a service - http://createpdf.adobe.com/ - its a free trial where you can create a pdf document (max 100mb and 50 pages). You can get a free or cheap pdf program at download.com
