I have a religious site on which I had posted an article about some decoration (kolam it is called) Today I received a mail from a person from -ikolam.com asking me to remove one or two artworks from my site's page -http://www.kuzhalmannamagraharam.info/articles/kolam.html saying that its part of their site and I am publishing it without their permission. Is their claim acceptable and I should remove the artwork from my site?
Which artwork is it? If the images are taken from his site you of course remove it, otherwise there is no reason at all to do it.
two of the artworks are from their site.. I have asked them whether they would be interested to keep it there and having the source information. like source from -ikolam.com . Those pictures were in fact given by the author of the article and I just published it.. I never cross checked those pictures are having copyright. Do they really have copyright? Thats my question is.. I have no objection removing those.. but still I would like to know..
I didnt find any Relation in the art between ikolam.com/kolam.php and yours - http://www.kuzhalmannamagraharam.info/articles/kolam.html Yes, the design looks same but they are not 100% Copied ones. I feel he is fearing that he will lose traffic to yours as both the sites have same type of content. which is why he would have emailed you. Better reply him asking which particular image he thinks has a problem.
Its the same I too felt I have replied them.. I'll keep you all informed.. One option I have given is keeping them there and mentioning the source i.e their site.. No links by any means
Pictures and articles have automatic copyright protection- i.e. you need to have permission to use any picture, photograph, or article. A person can also go through the formal copyright process to establish a time frame. I don't know if this person is the copyright holder, but you legally need to have permission to use anything you didn't create (some works, such as government are not subject to copyright protection). Giving a person a link does not give you legal permission to use something. A rights holder for a photograph can also demand a usage fee (which they basically get to set) if they find you are violating their copyright - so you need to be careful. There was a thread where a person was being asked to pay a usage fee of $1,000 per photograph or face legal action. Copyright infringement can also be a criminal offense and some people in extreme cases have gone to jail for several years.
You have plenty of images already. Why not just go ahead and remove two? Would it really ruin whatever it was you're trying to get across?
Hi jackburton2006, what you suggest seems to be a better option.. I never thought it that way.. BTW, the concern for the other person might be the traffic to their site -ikolam.com which is currently #1 for the kw -kolam , not a heavy searched one though.. I will be removing those 2 images.. but that marks another challenge in front of me - be #1 for their best kw
Hi amit, you saw http://ikolam.com/kolam.php But did you check ?? http://ikolam.com/kolam/easy.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/simple.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/intermediate.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/complex.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/specialoccasions.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/borders.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/lines.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/pooja_rooms.php http://ikolam.com/kolam/navagraha.php There are many more images in there Btw , SEOlion, thats a great site you have ... and the article is even more good Hehe and guess what I found my name on your website ... Anyways moving back to the copyright issue, since we know that even though kolam is not a more talked about topic on the internet, still the owner of those sites knows of copyright infringement, i suggest you go in for removing those images! Since, the webmaster emailing you does give us a hint that he is serious about his content and can take action againts you My 2 cents! Abhishek
