somebody (a book author) contacted me and asked me they wanted to include my article in their book, which they are about to publish.

i told them they can feel free to include my article in their book. Just wanted to know if there are any other formalities involved. Should i ask for money or something else?

Since this the first time, somebody had asked me, need some advice :)

since including your article in their book would mean you are giving them rights to sell it.. but as your work and not theirs, i'd say depending on the length of your article charge them accordingly [say 60-100$] [or maybe more if its huge]

    A link to your website:
A anchor saying article written by you:
A percentage of profit 1% or something
    A free book:
    Free advertisement:
A page dedicated to you saying you are the god and you own everything.

    Will.

Don't bother asking for royalties. The author is probably making 15-30% off profits.

One more thing, make sure you see an advance copy to see how the context in which the article is used. I'm sure you've heard of situations where quotes were taken out of context. A similar thing can happen here.

And THAT is being generous. I'd say more around 10%-15%.

If you know a publisher that gives 1/3 of the profits to authors, please, link me!

:) True. I was referring to the likes of JK Rowling, who makes 30% and is still a billionaire.

Make sure you don't ask for too much. Make sure you and your site are credited, and that you at least get a free copy of the book. Maybe asking for a tiny percentage, depending on the circumstances.

Depends on the article. If you don't want the money just ask for a copy of the book. Money isn't always the most important thing...

Ask that you see the draft, and that nothing has been changed.
