Some Big Google Serp changes for me today!

Wow, I am either seeing tons of GREEN, or tons of RED with the tracking tool today.

For the past few weeks, things have been only green so I can't complain. Wonder what Google is up to! But then again, now that I look at the history, there were a few spikes like this and the next day or two returned to better positions. Hmm...

    Anyone else?

Mine have been stable today. Yesterday I suddenly moved from 9999 (no where) to 43 for a keyword on a site that has been around for three years. I was surprised to see it. It used to rank very well, but dropped out of site 6-8 months ago and I thought it was dead.

I've gone down on a number of sites since the Feb 3rd update began, but I have a site I put up about 40 days ago and getting 300+ uniques per day, most from google. I'm sure the bubble will burst on it shortly, but I'm loving the sales!

Agreed, I use the Digital Point Tool:)

I also use a handful of others such as googlerankings, and some customized stuff.

Things have been wacky all around but I am holding and gaining grounds so I can't complain. High Demand Keywords are always great especially when you are on the first page:)

Sure you didn't just have it set to only check the first 50 results? That would result in anything >50 being shown as nowhere and thus moving up 9999 spots anytime it got into the top 50. Thus, you could have been ranked #55 or so for a while, and moved up to #43 - not that huge a jump, and it would show as up 9999 spots...

Hi Ephricon, you were right on the money. I never updated the results to display and it was set to 50. Thanks for the tip!

What is scary is that I too have seen some 0's, or 9999's come to life after many months. Even when I have it set to 200.

Then again, I usually make changes so it is obvious that eventually they crack. Definitely good tip about the 200 from 50 though, I like to see my ranks no matter where they are, first page or 12th!!!:)

I have noticed a bit more green and red lately as well..... But I find alot of the time that if I click the individual keywords that are in the red to re-run just a certain one that many times it will go back to the green and sometimes higher than before. Does this happen to anyone else?

I too see odd inconsistencies sometimes. I usually blame this on the API backend since it is not always idential to the actual updated google database. All in all if a rank is low enough and I see a bad change, I will usually venture into google itself, or check a datacenter checker to see if it holds true. Many of times it usually is not moved.

I saw some big jumps this morning too. One of my main keywords jumped from the #30s to just outside the top 10. I have a ton of terms not yet entered the SERPS yet though and I didn't see any changes on any of those

Yes, I had some drops today as well. So I headed on over to the mcdar tool and looked at the different datacenters. Wanna know what I found? Well, the whole long, excrutiating dance that started early this month and finally settled (for my keywords) is now backtracking and heading back the other way - back to before the changes started this month. This is not good for me, because this update fixed the problem that happened in the Dec. update. Now, I'm headed back to the Dec. ugliness. Sigh. Google is so weird.

Hello, I didn't see this forum right off, so I ranted about Google in the Yahoo Forum under the UH-OH thread. Please read that and I welcome any feedback that will help my site move upward in the free search results on Google (tools, suggestions, services etc) Due to Google's changes on Feb 3rd, my Ecommerce site stopped getting any business! It has been 3 weeks and its driving me crazy. I can't find where the pipeline got shut off. I can't get the DP Keyword tracker to do anything and I wonder how you all know where you are in the keyword rankings as well as page rankings on Google. Please advise! Thanks Lady T

    Hey Dazzlindonna,
That is definitely intersting that you talk about December because right around the 15th I had some drastic drops. From there about a month later things went to being better than ever. Now I am slowly seeing red. I am not extremely worried yet since there have been a few spikes here and there. It is definitely going to be an interesting one to watch from here!!!!!!!

    Hey LadyT,
That is Rough! But the world keeps turning, and google will still continue to crush businesses. Rather than take a hit, learn and get smart. Develop 1, 2, 3 sites of the same and use different methods. Some do full SEO, some lightly, and then one with non at all. That way you will get a collected total of traffic and hope for better.

Just my thoughts. The old saying, "Never put all your eggs in one basket" because google will throw the entire thing off the bridge.

Everything is pretty stable for me...no major changes. I'm definitely not seeing any big drops.
