hello i want to upload a series of a tv show what does not air on tv anymore (it's 10 years old) nor has it ever been on sale on dvd. will i run into copyright? also im thinking of buying offshore hosting to be on the safe side. but since i am actually uploading the tv show files on my offshore server is this now allowed? will i need a dedicated server for this (offshore) any help i would really appreciate
Of course you'll run into problems. It's not your tv show and you don't have any rights to distribute it. What makes you think it is OK to steal someone elses property and work, and think you could get away with it? Offshore hosting isn't going to help you if they come after you - and they will.
well you sound friendly. on youtube they have all the episodes uploaded for years and they have not been taken down?
Do you want me to be your friend? You come on here telling everyone you want to commit an offence and steal someones work product, and you seem to expect a friendly reply. It's theft and there's no nice way to put it or nice way to deal with it. At least you got the message which is about the friendliest thing that could have happened to you as it stops you putting your whole livelihood at risk over a TV show. If that's your defence, then why not just go ahead and do it? I'm sure the judge will take that into consideration - for about a nanosecond - while he makes his judgement against you and you will lose big time.
Hi LloydUK What you need to do is to set up your website on an off shore webhost which specifically allows warez linking. Once done you need to upload your files to a filehost such as filesonic or wupload - DO NOT put the files on your own webspace ! Once you have your files uploaded you can add links to them on your website. Since your only linking to files somewhere else on the web you will be fine - this is not illegal in most places. When you register your domain name, make sure you use whoisguard to protect your personal details during whois lookups - your domain provider should have this as a standard feature for you to choose. Oh yeha - make sure to properly check out any webhost you like the look of - a nice website can mask a myriad of problems. Google them - check out the user reviews. Altushost are good and cheap, but not the cheapest (you really do get what you pay for) - if you like them I have a ref you could sign up under and I'll be happy to offer any help and advice if you need it (I build websites - shops mostly). Same goes for filesonic and wupload. Hope that helps EDIT: Always register your domain name at a reputable place like namecheap - not the place you buy hosting from. Do not take up offers of 'free' domain names with web hosting packages - nothings really for free, the price is just usually in with the package price, plus you may have trouble (or find it impossible) transferring 'your' domain name out if you need to. DO NOT use santrex for anything - ever.
