Here some things I learned as a newbie Wordpress\Woocommerce designer: 1) Buy a premium theme. It will save you money in the long run. I started my site out with free theme. It seemed like a logical idea since I was on a small budget, but it quickly became limiting and time consuming. With paid themes you get many premium plugins included at no extra cost. Buying that many plugins individually could cost you 3 times of what your theme cost. Also, if you are a newbie like me you get support. Support not only helps you keep your site up, but you start to learn and understand how CSS Styles and Wordpress in general work. 2)Take time to understand how ecoommerce pictures are displayed on your website. What I mean by this is make sure your site is aesthetically pleasing. I spent hours trying to get my catalog pictures right only to finally understand that I had the dimensions of the photos wrong everytime. For woocommerce, use a square transparent background and place the actual image as a layer inside. That way everything is exactly square on your shop pages. 3)Take some time to understand how to use inspect element on your browser. When I first started the site, it all kind of looked like greek to me, but the more I started to play with inspect element on my browser the better I actually understood how the style sheets work. 4) Use your website as a customer. Not everyone is willing to trade looks for convenience. Your goal should not only be to have a beautiful site, but a simple site as well. 5) Create consumer trust, but don't be overbearing about it. Use PayPal Logos and other badges to show your site is safe, but keep them in a footer or some place away from body content.
