Some ad types should give weight.

In my opinion webmasters who run banner ads should be rewarded with more ad-weight from the network.

It is harder to attract visitors with only a simple text link. Having the benefit of the extra text or banner could make a huge impact in how many visitors/customers you manage attract from the network.

I think it would be fair to give the webmasters who run banners for the network a 30-50% bonus to their accounts.

As it is now there is no extra benefits for the webmaster running banners, so most webmasters in the network run link ads only.

    Opinions please!

I got one web site that makes a lot of extra sales due to the network, if more web sites has been running banners then this web site would would make even more money. The company has hired one extra guy to help out in production since they are getting so many extra orders

Hmm, I'd consider running banner ads...could be worth it.

Why did this get moved to "weight questions"? This is a core question and should be in the main Coop category.

The reason I don't run banners is not the weight issue. Its the fact that hardly anyone has created actual banners so you just end up with a half empty box with a text link in it.

Changing the weight wouldn't motivate me at all but creating a way to only display image banner ads would

I think that's adding unneccessary complication to the Co-op. Besides, to be fair, you would then have to charge more to have your ads shown as a banner.

I don't think of it as an "unneccessary complication" to the network. I think webmasters that provide better ad space should be rewarded.

If more webmasters were to run banners then we all might make more money. After all we joined the network to exchange advertising, right? Most off the ads leads to pages that sell some goods or service, right? So it is a good idea to attemt to increase the click through rate, right?

I would only use banners if they opened in a new window.

Sure it's nice to get more clicks. That said, aren't text ads supposed to get a better clickthrough rate? Everything I've read says people are very good at ignoring banners.

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to comment on it.

Some webmasters have really put the time and effort to make some good image ads. Banner Ads take up more space and if you wanted the same weight in the network (adding 5 banners), it can look pretty shifty on your site. I have seen some of the ads and would prefer to see more image ads in the network.

I thought this was an ad network?
