    Hello All,

I thought I would just list some of the high weighted (so often shown) ads that wouldn't be approved with the new quality rules just to see if they are yours if you could be pro active and fix them now. For those of us that feature ads prominently, it would be much appreciated.

Trójmiasto < Whats the problem with this ad?

The wierd characters are because the ad (ecoding UTF-8) is being shown on a none UTF-8 encoded page e.g. ISO-8859-1.

Thank you for picking that one out

These were a quick sampling of capitalization issues, so ignore that one that I accidentally put in.

Agreed... it would be a good idea for people to start fixing them, because at some point we are going to go through and sweep out the non-compliant ones.

Could you point me to where the new ad rules are posted? I've looked all through the forum and on the setup page, but don't find anything. I'm sure all of us want to comply with the rules - but we need to know what they are. :)

Two things here, one my anchor text is: "Mari-Len.com - Online Shopping". Is that too long? If so I'll fix it. The other thing, and I've been wondering about this since I started with the coop, is why are we ending up with ads that are all lower case? In in banner ad I've seen there is a lowercase title, and then the description is exactly the same word or phrase. It's an ad! It seems to me like people are treating these like blind links and don't care what they look like. It might be a good idea to check for blink linking out there. It's really rude, and the SE's hate it a lot.

It's being dealt with as we speak. New ads which don't comply to the new rules won't validate, old ads are being booted out. In 1-2 weeks there won't be any uglies left I predict.

You are right though that even without the rules, people should pay more attention to the ads. Do they do the same in AdWords?

About your forum Nicholas; find a hack to get rid of the sid=aa80dd7c9823b9081c40c44e8b1596ca strings and your weight will increase big time.

They don't have any ads on their site. How can they be in the network?

I also seen Western union moneygram ads for a site that just has some gif image being pulled from your server, rather than any ads.

Am I missing something? Can I have ads running on a few php enabled sites I run, then setup my ads to all point to another site, which has no ads on it? It would help it's ranking for sure.

Isn't that a bit sneeky, or is it just me?

I would also like to ask, If I may put my referrer link into an Ad?

    Thanks :)

Yes you can aim weight at non-participating sites.

Yes you could have just banners (text or img).

    Yes it's just you.

Not sure if you're still allowed to ad ref link but used ot be OK.

I've given that a lot of thought there has to be a way to kill off the session id strings when the visitor, or bot, is not logged in, but the forums aren't a first priority right now. The real problem I have is with my shopping cart. It has the same weight as the forms, and the same problem. The cart has a facility to turn off session Id's when a "known" bot hits it. Bots are listed in a txt file and it seems to work for inktomi and some of the other bots that have hit me, but I noticed today that googlebot is still seeing them. This is obviously a problem and I've taken it up with the developers of the cart, we'll see what they say. I know there's got to be a way to do it, because their cart has a PR7!

I believe you can force the sessions to be cookie based only.

Then you will have to require your visitors to enable cookies though.

    FRom php.net:

    session.use_only_cookies boolean

session.use_only_cookies specifies whether the module will only use cookies to store the session id on the client side. Defaults to 0 (disabled, for backward compatibility). Enabling this setting prevents attacks involved passing session ids in URLs. This setting was added in PHP 4.3.0.

    Hi :),

Could you please tell me, what statement of guidelines is broken by the ad quoted above?

Trójmiasto is the Polish name of three cities in Poland, in fact being one big urban organism, called in English Tricity.

So, it is not adult, not gamblig and not pharmaceutical ad.

I hope you don't see anything wrong with this ad now, do you? :)

    Greets from Tricity :),
