I'm not sure what category this fits under, but the answer to the problem will tell me, so I'll just go ahead and describe the problem. I have a movie site on offshore hosting and, no matter how many offshore hosts I've tried, try ALL turn out to have LOTS of downtime. This is unacceptable to me, as my site earns daily revenue and I lose money during all this downtime. So, I'm wondering...is it possible to somehow have it set up that I can have the site files on 2-3 different hosts and if one goes down then the visitor can be redirected to the next available host? Is this even possible? Maybe through the nameservers list, or htaccess or something else?? Please advise on the best way to fix this problem. Thanks in advance!
You can try asking around for IP round robin. Or perhaps buy multiple dedicated servers, small specs, and do load balancing between them.
This is possible indeed, but you would also need to have your nameservers hosted on a VERY reliable connection so that they DO NOT go down. If your nameservers go down nothing will resolve. If they stay up, you can have them point to another clone of your site. You would need to look into syncing your files across your multiple locations as well, which is a little more advanced. If your income justifies it, I would recommend using that setup.
Just try to never go with the "Cheapest Offshore Hosting" you will find many reliable company, with reasonable price.
