I just got the coded files of my blog but since the coder was busy I went ahead and installed wordpress through Fantastico. But I have heard that installations through Fantastico is not considered good because sometime it just messes up the database tables and other things. That's why it is recommended to install softwares manually. Is it correct or just a misconception? I am confused because now a days every hosting company offers Fantastico, if it was very bad no one would be offering it. But may be I am wrong, that's why I am looking forward to your replies.
I never had a single trouble with Fantastico and have been using it since the day it came out years ago.
I also never had any sort of problem while installing any script using Fantastico! I guess you are not aware of MySQL that much! you can easily access Database using PhpMyAdmin & its related items
Yes, I don't have much knowledge of MYSQL and that hosting related things. I just know simple method of using FTP to upload my files, that's it. It means my blog will not create any trouble in future?
Like the other posters, I have never experieced a problem AND There is the additional benifit of automatic notices when a security update is issued for a set of scripts. The only time you would have a potential problem is , if you mod the sripts after the install. You might lose your mods on any future update. This is not a problem for most users since about all they ever do is add additional themes.
Fantastico installations usually run perfect as long as the host has not disabled some required features in the system default php.ini for scripts The only drawback is fantastico is a little slow on upgrating there scripts to the latest versions which could lead to being hacked if there were security flaws in those version differences. I manually install everything and keep it constantly updated
