    phpbb can be downloaded here. That's about the only thing you'll get for free.

    Some of us prefer SMF as our forum software. Yes, it is free as well. Check it out @ SMF

    If you want a free one, I'd go for SMF...
    if you dont mind paying for it, vBulletin is the best choice imo
