Hi all, When I download some software programs, they assign a computer ID to my machine. Whenever I open them and view a log-in screen, they recognize my username. I have connected from different IP addresses, but my username still pops up when I open the programs. How do these software programs recognize my computer? Is it my Windows product key? My computer serial number? Does anyone here know how to change whatever it is that makes these software programs recognize my computer id? Thanks
Often this software uses a one-way-hash from your networkcard's mac address. However, they can fingerprint anyother information too. They use a one-way-hash to make sure your privacy is not violated
I changed my MAC address and my IP address (proxy) but they still recognized me when I opened the application and tried to log in. What other information might they use to identify me? Is there any way to change this information? (computer serial #, possibly?) Thanks, Mark
It may be using your MAC address, BIOS Rev., OS signature, volume creation, hard drive serial no. or just anything. However, all of the above mentioned things are changeable if you really are desperate to run that program.
