You mixed and matched the names -- it's Wikimapia, not "google mapia".

Fortunately for you, it is a WIKI. Register on their site, and you can edit/delete anything that you want.

Yes, you can just log into Wikimapia and edit/delete your details.

Here's one additional thing you can do - go to Google Alerts and set up an alert for your name - that way, if someone reposts your name and address to wikimapia (or if there is any new reference to your name anywhere on the web), you will come to know about it as soon as google picks it up.

    Best,

isn't name and address public information?
can you sue someone if they post this on a website?
this info is available in phone books and other public records anyway

Privacy theft is a Crime. It's your choice if you want information like name and address in public listings or not.

As for wikimapia, register and I think you should be able to edit / delete any information.

    Agreed. However...

If you've already agreed for the information to be public (like in a phone book), is it really a crime if someone reposts this information elsewhere?

Even if your name is in a public phone directory (as agreed by you), the directory always says that information is copyrighted and subject to a privacy policy, there are lots of legalities attached, and as many loopholes, so there is not much that can be done. Because if the thread starter sues that guy who posted the info... (1) Money will be lost. (2) The posted information in question will get more publicity and it'll make it's way to local newspapers.

For future reference, don't piss off any ex-girlfriends, is funny how private info always manage to land on Google when a relationship does not work out :)

What about whois information, that available everywhere, so, with that been said are the privacy policies in place for this, i dont ever remember agreeing to one when i register for domains. Furthermore, if information such as whois can freely be made public on any website does that give you the right to use or re-distribute? Im guessing different laws different countries senario again.

My host and domains registrar offers a default whois so my own profile would not show and is not a problem...
