Over the past few months, I've received a number of articles about Web 2.0 and social bookmarking etc as being the way to go in link development. Great. What are you supposed to do, wave a magic wand and make people link to your site? Perhaps you could hire people to set up accounts on the bookmarking services to link to it. Okay, you can develop your site and add content, but I don't think it's as easy as some authors are making out.
You can add links to del.icio.us, etc, on your website to encourage people to bookmark your site. Here's a good article on it: - Add Digg This links, add to Del.icio.us, and more. Other than that, I'm as stumped as you are. I've added my own sites to my delicious and My Yahoo!, but no one else has (not even my own friends). Cryo.
Yes, I've done the same with little result. The best result I've had so far was when a site member added a game to StumbleUpon
I've also got an AddToBookmarks script for several of the major bookmarking sites. Don't know if anyone other than me has used it yet.
Guys, keep in mind that all those people are NOT YOUR TARGETED VISITORS, i.e. they're not usually going to buy your products/services even if they come to your site. BUT!.. If you eran money with the help of AdSence - then this crowd may be exactly what you need, 'cause usually people form all these diggs, reddits, stumbledupons, etc leave sites in 2-10 seconds after they come there.
Social Bookmarking Sites are all about listing high quality content, e.g. someone comes to your website, likes it and either diggs it or adds it to del.icio.us for later reading (or similar) the more people that 'digg' your page so to speak, the more popular and the more traffic your website will recieve from the site. There isn't really any magic wand or fast way to get listed in these sites other than writing quality and popular content.
I agree. The suggestion you get from the articles I've read is that it's easy to get people to bookmark your site. It's not; even if you continually add content.
I agree with this completely, although since joining StumbleUpon I have experienced an increase in site traffic. It's pretty good quality traffic too with maybe 50% of the visitors staying at least 1-2 minutes. Well, I think it's good traffic. Getting people to return, sign up and participate, however, takes effort and time and maybe a little ingenuity. My short review of StumbleUpon.
I recently wrote an article on my blog about digg. It's a must read for every webmaster: http://blog.websitejoint.com/web-20/2006/every-webmaster-should-know-this-about-digg/ Unless you have quality content, don't try to get on any social bookmarking website just coz u think it will make you money. It will increaser traffic, thats no guarantee of making you money... not every social bookmarking website is same, i am not so sure about de.licio.us but digg doesn't work, i know that!
